Project end date: August 2024         |         Industry sector: Process Engineering – Food and Beverage Sector

The Challenge

Delta Rock serve as a constant partner for a major UK process engineering company. We bring our design, manufacture and installation of electrical and automation engineering skills to power the various plant equipment, across an array of industry sectors.

This project saw the need for us to manage the supply and installation of all electrical cabling and MCC/PLC control panels to safely and effectively power the 3-part new skids: RO Skid, UFNF Skid and Pasteuriser Skid.

Part of a significant investment, this project was to support the growth of a major UK animal feed manufacturing facility. With specially designed skids, additional processing plant equipment was designed to support the individual operational and growth capabilities needs of this animal feed plant.

A typical project for Delta Rock to manage, but as with many operating plants, it came with certain challenges, not least the access constraints, and effectively routing the necessary cabling from each skid to the main switch room control area, through live processing plant areas.

Our Approach

Based on the client’s documentation and scope of works, Delta Rock developed a comprehensive work plan to ensure the safe and efficient installation of electrical systems for power and control onto the three specified skids.

The plan incorporated details of each skid type, their locations, and interface specifications, guaranteeing a professional and compliant implementation of the electrical infrastructure.

This included the design of the MCC and R10 control panels.

The Solution

Once the Skids were positioned, Delta Rock were able to commence work to interconnect electrical connections and automation instrumentation for control and monitoring operations

To support the safe powering of the three skids, various equipment needed to be supplied and installed.

These included installation of:

  • Three main MCC/PLC control panels – housing the electrical components to control the operation of the Skids.
  • Three field R10 control panels – to interface with the main control panels.
  • Motor control and sensors – this is to ensure the equipment within the skids function correctly and efficiently.
  • A variety of – proxy switches, level switch/transmitters, temperature and pressure transmitters, pumps with thermos cables.
  • Containment – running and supporting cables from each MCC/PLC control panel to appropriate Skid.

The electrical installation provided centralised monitoring interface panels for each skid and individual isolation. This design ensures the safe operation of each skid and facilitates efficient day-to-day management

As with many of our projects, the Delta Rock team executed this installation under stringent time constraints while minimising disruptions to ongoing production activities.

Our approach demonstrates our commitment to meeting deadlines, while maintaining operational continuity and delivering on all project objectives for our clients.

Value Delivered

The implementation of three additional processing units significantly enhanced the client’s manufacturing capacity and advanced their capabilities in animal feed refinement.

This upgrade allows for improved production efficiency and enables the customer to further optimise their feed formulations, potentially leading to higher quality nutritional products for livestock.
