Putting the Power into Converting Plant for New Paper Mill
Starting in early 2025, the first major milestone of this significant investment in North Wales has been reached with the completion of the Converting Plant. Delta Rock was proud to deliver the full electrical infrastructure for this state-of-the-art new paper mill facility.
The momentum continues as we have moved into Phase 2: the Paper Mill. Having been awarded the electrical installation contract for this second stage, we look forward to continuing our work on this landmark regional investment.
State-of-the-Art Paper Mill Production Facilities
The plant will be home to a paper mill and conversion manufacturing operations, to produce tissue paper, along with warehousing facilities. Featuring cutting-edge technology, including eight advanced converting machines and a high-capacity paper mill machine, this will significantly boost the UK manufacturing of these goods, reducing our reliance on imports and providing capacity to export these UK produced products.
Delta Rock Providing the Electrical Expertise
The comprehensive scope of work for Delta Rock on this 1st phase was the electrical installation which, included high-voltage cable installation to support the substations, installing the complete lighting system, including emergency lighting system and the intricate fibre optic communications systems to each control panel system.
The new plant is a valuable regional asset and features a diverse array of cutting-edge technology.
- Medium Voltage Substations – responsible for receiving medium voltage electricity from the external grid and converting it into lower, stable voltages that will power on-site equipment. Delta has run and managed the installation of a robust 33kV electrical system and MV switchgear throughout the sites 6 sub-stations.
- Power Systems – Installation of 415v power across site to machine / converting control panels & local distribution boards.
- Energy Efficient Lighting System – with a diverse range of areas, lighting has been installed in both internal and external locations, across the site, to ensure a safe and productive environment.
- Emergency Lighting – designed and installed to illuminate safe exit routes, in the event of a power failure and an emergency situation, to ensure the safety of personnel.
- Intricate Fibre Optic Communication System – responsible for high-speed, reliable data transmission to control panels (automation and control systems), which is the heart of the mill’s operations.
Intelligent Interconnected Communication Systems Throughout Paper Mill
At the heart of the paper mill’s operation is a sophisticated fibre optic communications network, installed by Delta Rock. This network connects each control panel, to facilitate real-time data exchange. This enables precise, synchronised control of the entire production process.
In the event of a fault or operational disruption at any stage, the communication system will instantly relay information to all connected control panels, triggering a coordinated shutdown to prevent damage and safeguarding operations.
The implementation of fibre optic technology, known for its high bandwidth and immunity to electromagnetic interference, is crucial for ensuring reliable and rapid data transmission in the demanding high-speed industrial environment of a paper mill.
Having the in-house electrical and automative expertise enables Delta Rock to deliver not only electrical installations, but also intelligent, interconnected systems that optimise efficiency and safety.
Phase 1 – Converting Plant Completed
Having successfully completed Phase 1 of this contract, the Delta Rock team have now been awarded the electrical installation for Phase 2 – Paper Mill installation, which will continue through 2026.
