Delta Rock Electrifies Expansion: Transforming Warehouse into EV Forklift Charging Hub

The Challenge:
Our client, who are continuing to invest in the growth of their business, has recently completed the build of a new modern manufacturing plant for their product. To support this new plant our customer has chosen electric forklift trucks.
Transferring to electric forklift trucks offers a business several benefits: there are obviously the environmental benefits, as no harmful fumes are released, but electric forklift trucks require less maintenance and are quieter.
To create the charging station bay for the new forklift trucks, a section of the old existing warehouse was allocated.
The project involved efficiently integrating a new electrical infrastructure, while maximising energy efficiency and safety.
Delta Rock’s Expertise in Action:
Our team of skilled electricians expertly tackled this multi-faceted project:
- Smart Power Distribution: We installed a new distribution board to power five dedicated charging points for the electric forklifts. This involved leveraging a large existing power cable from the previously decommissioned production line, ensuring cost-effective utilisation of existing resources.
- Targeted Power Delivery: From the main distribution panel, we meticulously ran five separate power feeds to strategically positioned local distribution boards. Each local board then fed a designated charging socket, creating a user-friendly docking station for the electric forklifts.
- Enhanced Material Handling: To support the movement and transfer of power packs, we installed a rotary isolator for the warehouse crane, enabling efficient and safe ease of handling.
- Seamless Integration: To accommodate the new electrical cabling infrastructure, for the charging bays, we installed additional ladder racking and containment in the old warehouse section. This ensured a well-organised and secure cabling system, promoting safety and ease of access for future maintenance and extensions.
Efficiently Illuminating the new charging station
- Lighting Upgrade for Efficiency and Safety: To support this new facility, new lighting was needed to replace the outdated and inefficient halogen lighting system. New high-quality LED lighting system was installed. LEDs offer superior energy efficiency. Compared to traditional lamps, LEDs use up to 80% less energy, while producing the same level of brightness.
The new LED lighting system not only reduces energy consumption and costs for our client, but also creates a brighter, safer workspace for personnel. Additionally, LED lights offer the advantages of lower maintenance requirements and a longer lifespan compared to traditional halogen systems.
